What is a superscore?

A superscore is your best possible score built from multiple test dates. Instead of using a single sitting, it takes your highest score in each section — no matter which date you earned it — and combines them. Since most students improve on a retake, a superscore is usually higher than any one test.

SAT superscore: highest Reading & Writing (EBRW) + highest Math, for a total out of 1600. ACT superscore: average your best English, Math, Reading, and Science scores, then round to the nearest whole number.

Frequently asked questions

Do colleges accept superscores?

Many colleges superscore the SAT and ACT automatically, but policies vary. Check each school's testing policy to confirm — some use your single highest sitting instead.

Should I retake the test to superscore?

If one section was lower than the rest, a focused retake can raise just that section and lift your superscore — often the most efficient way to boost your total.
