How the final grade calculator works
Your class grade is a weighted average: everything you've done so far counts for part of it, and the final exam counts for the rest. To find the score you need on the final, we solve for the final so your weighted average hits your target:
Needed final = (Target − Current × (1 − Weight)) ÷ Weight, where the weight is written as a decimal (a 20% final = 0.20). Switch to “My overall grade” and we do the reverse: Overall = Current × (1 − Weight) + Final × Weight.
Frequently asked questions
What if it says I need more than 100%?
Your target isn't reachable with the final alone. Aim for the highest score you can, and check whether your class offers extra credit that could close the gap.
How much is my final usually worth?
Finals are commonly worth 10–30% of your overall grade, but it varies by class. Your syllabus has the exact weight — enter that number for an accurate result.
Does this work for weighted categories?
This tool treats “current grade” as everything except the final. If your class uses category weights (tests, homework, etc.), use your current overall percentage as the input and it still works.
